Pebbledash rendering and replacement is something that can be carried out with the minimum of fuss by the never paint again exterior wall coatings installation teams across the UK.

Pebble dash is not to everyone’s taste and like it or loath it, it doesn’t last for ever and at some time and if your house is plastered in pebbledash, it is going to need to be re-done, but do you REALLY WANT that awful stuff covering your home?

If you’re not too sure, please can we have 5 minutes of your time to read this and then see what you think…………

What’s wrong with pebbledash?

Pebbledash, as an exterior wall coating, only has a finite lifespan so when the outside walls of your house look tired, with missing stones, cracks, hollow render and bald areas of pebbles, now is the time to consider getting it spruced up perhaps?

How many times have we heard that phrase here in the office? Thousands! Well, you have certainly found the right people to ask as NPA have been painting houses all across the UK since the 80′s.

In today’s world where saving money seems to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind, the chaps at NEVER PAINT AGAIN have a money saving house repair and painting method which guarantees the home owner that he or she will not have to paint the exterior walls of their house for up to 20 years!

This amazing system is not a gimmick, it has been available in similar forms since the 1970′s in the UK, and therefore has many years proof of performance in not only actually lasting as long as we say, but also it’s proven to weatherproof house exterior walls. There are many reasons why a long life house paint coating on your walls is preferable over normal paint, but hey we’re somewhat biased of course!

Why not stick to yearly painting?

Our website is well known for tips and advice about applying paint, but we felt that a tip or two about REMOVING paint would also add to the balance of things, so how do you remove paint?

Stripping paint and other unwanted wall coatings is usually the job that both DIYers and contractors loath and detest, but what goes on, must eventually come off, and paint or wall coating stripping cant be avoided!

Here are a few pointers to make the unbearable, a bit more bearable.

Removing a coating or a paint finish from a wall is awful, lets face it, but it has to be done sometimes and is usually very hard work. In fact, in most cases, if its a professional job in the first place as opposed to a cowboy lick of paint, then ironically, the job can be 10 times as hard as removing a poorly applied paint finish!

Luckily there are some tools available which should make the work of stripping paint much easier.

It’s that time of year yet again, to find a reputable decorator to give you a price quote or estimate for painting the exterior of your house. It seems like only last year you paid to have it done, in fact, it probably was last year!

Every single year, or 2 years if you are one of the lucky ones, it’s time to find a decorator to give you a price to have the outside of the property painted.

Getting 3 quotes, waiting around for people who then never turn up, calling more people, trawling the internet for advice, checking out the possible scams, doing reference checks on tradesman, its a right load of hassle and in this day and age, wouldn’t it be nice if there was another way?

Another way to avoid yearly house painting, avoid cowboy and cash-in-hand painters, and to finally cure all the wall problems that the decorator just paints over, smiling as he does, because he knows next year he can fleece you of another 2 grand.

If only there was another way!

Well i’m very pleased to tell you THERE IS another way.

There is now a simple wall coating system available from NEVER PAINT AGAIN!

Rendered or pebbledashed exterior house walls are prone to cracking, so Never Paint Again have teamed up with England’s largest wall protection contractors to offer you anti crack coloured wall rendering for your home.

Cracking occurs for a variety of reasons, often related to poor application of an external wall covering such as render, or in fact having a poor level of wall protection on the walls, such as cheap masonry paint.

The weather can also called render to crack. When a small crack appears in your house outside walls, it means that the external wall covering (e.g. the coating of pebbledash) has become detached in some way from the structure of the house, the bricks the house is constructed from.

This might not seem particularly bad at present, but that crack is a gap where water can now enter behind the wall covering or render. This then freezes when the cold weather arrives, and just like when you fill an ice cube tray in the freezer, the water expands, and that also happens in your walls.

What material can you find in toothpaste, sunscreen, solar cells, on the baseline at Wimbledon, in a Roman church, and along a tunnel in Brussels?

Full marks if you guessed titanium dioxide, a nearly ubiquitous but wholly unsung material.

Its brilliant white has made it a staple in pigments – hence Wimbledon – but its eco-credentials are still coming to the fore.

Titanium dioxide does a couple of clever tricks that mean we may well be seeing a lot of it in the future: it’s self-cleaning, and it breaks down pollutants in the air.

And the fact that thin films of it are clear is the reason that a number of manufacturers use it in glass applications such as skylights.

Paving the way

The self-cleaning aspect comes about because one processed form of titanium dioxide is what is called superhydrophilic – literally, “water-loving”, which means that when water hits a dirty titanium dioxide surface, that surface will draw in a whisper-thin sheet of water across its whole surface, displacing grime that then washes neatly away.

Tiny loose flakes of titanium dioxide are used in cosmetics, toothpaste and sunscreen

But its second trick of removing pollutants is what has made it an increasingly popular choice for environmentally-minded building projects.

A bit of the ultraviolet light in sunlight frees up electrons from the material, creating “free radicals” that actively break down pollutants including so-called NOx gases (molecules of varying proportions of nitrogen and oxygen) or VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

A number of pilot projects around the world have seen the material used in, for example, concrete – hence the Jubilee Church in Rome. In Japan, Mitsubishi markets a brand of titanium dioxide-treated paving stones and Toto makes coated ceramic tiles.

The material hit the news again this week when the aluminium firm Alcoa announced its new product Ecoclean, a titanium dioxide coating on aluminium panels for cladding buildings.

The firm claims that 1,000 square metres of the coated panels eat up the equivalent NOx output of four cars.

“What we see, especially in Europe, is more and more legislation… about the air quality in cities, and I think that Ecoclean is a product that can really help mitigate the effects of emitters such as cars by its air-cleansing characteristics,” Alcoa spokesman Jasper Van Zon told BBC News.

Ecology of scale

The fact that such a large manufacturer has joined the ranks could mean that the real-world use of the material can finally be assessed on a large scale, says Anne Beeldens of the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium.

Dr Beeldens has been working with colleagues for years to establish, with rigorous experiments, the full scope of titanium dioxide’s effects in a built environment.

“We were really sceptical when we started with this, but it really works on the extraction of pollutants out of the air,” she told BBC News.

“The problem is that you have so many parameters that it’s sometimes hard to prove it. We got some promising results in the lab, but it was still in the lab; I think now it’s all shifting to real applications.”

“The Iceberg” building project in Denmark will incorporate Alcoa’s titanium dioxide-coated panels

Dr Beeldens is involved with the European project Photopaq, which has among other experiments coated the interior of the Leopold II tunnel in Brussels, carrying out detailed measurements of the before-and-after effects over the course of two weeks.

While the propensity of titanium dioxide to break down NOx and VOCs is well established, the full circle of chemistry that takes place is not entirely known.

“We will see from those results if any extra pollutant is formed by the reaction; you have to look not only at the reduction of the pollutants, but also to see if nothing more harmful is produced,” she explained.

Laboratory experiments have shown, for example, that the breakdown of NOx chemicals can result in the creation of other pollutants such as nitrous acid or ozone. But Dr Beeldens said that real-world tests in Japan had not shown significant production of the chemicals.

The data from the tunnel test will help settle the question. And as large building projects make use of titanium dioxide-coated products, such as “The Iceberg” in Aarhus, Denmark, further large-scale experiments can be carried out.

Dr Beeldens said: “When I look at it in the last year, a lot of projects are starting where there’s a link between application of the material and real air measurements, and I think once that link is really made, then it will start to be used all over the place.”

The kits used by humans 100,000 years ago to make paint have been found at the famous archaeological site of Blombos Cave in South Africa.

The hoard includes red and yellow pigments, shell containers, and the grinding cobbles and bone spatulas to work up a paste – everything an ancient artist might need in their workshop.

This extraordinary discovery is reported in the journal Science.

It is proof, say researchers, of our early ancestors’ complexity of thought.

“This is significant because it is pushing back the boundaries of our understanding of when Homo sapiens – people like us – first became modern,” said Prof Christopher Henshilwood from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

“These finds indicate that humans were certainly thinking in a modern way, in a way that is cognitively advanced, at least 100,000 years ago,” he told BBC News.

Prof Henshilwood shows what was found and how the tools were used

Blombos Cave on the southern Cape Coast, 300km east of Cape Town, has been giving up remarkable archaeological treasures for more than 20 years.

Scientists have been scraping down through its sandy sediments to find all manner of artefacts left by the Middle Stone Age people who occupied the limestone cavity.

In 2002, researchers described 70,000-year-old blocks of ochre. This soft stone contains iron oxides that can be used as a pigment, or colouring agent.

The toolkits were removed from the Blombos sediment in 2008

But apart from some engravings on the blocks, there was little hard evidence to determine the precise purpose of the Blombos ochre. The new items seem to have had a much more obvious use – as the equipment to process paints.

The finds include abalone shells with ochre residues inside. There are tools made of quartzite that were presumably employed to hammer and grind ochre into a powder in the shells. And there is evidence that charcoal and oil from seal bones were being added to the mix. It seems bone implements were also being used to turn and lift the paint pastes.

All these artefacts were found together, almost as if someone had put them down intending to retrieve them at a later time, but then never coming back. Sands blown in through the cave entrance subsequently buried the kits and locked them away until they were excavated in 2008.

This is just an excerpt. Go to the BBC NEWS website to read the rest

Did you know that GENEROUS DISCOUNTS are now available from the NEVER PAINT AGAIN organisation as the winter draws nearer? Yes, you could save a small fortune on exterior house painting, both short term and long term!

Is this another half-baked fake promotion from a home improvement company? NO!

Is this one of those type of promotions where the company promise a huge percentage off, for no reason, and then simply give me a big price, to shock me, and then slowly shave money off until the discount price is reached…..which was the normal price anyway LOL!????? NO!

Our customers aren’t stupid, far from it, and they can smell a bogus offer a mile away. This is a genuine discounted promotion

Why? Now we are coming into the winter months now when traditionally these sort of things slow down, people wrongly think that they have missed the boat if they need some work doing to the house…….
